Literature Review: What is Literature? & How Literature Shaped Me?

What is Literature?

From my BA, I know about literature, but in BA I deeply never know about literature. We just know literature is it and that is. But how to connect with human and reflect us, now I understand.

Literature is like something is taught us and inspire us. In school time we listen to any simple story it is also part of our literature.

Literature, like any art form, engages the reader in a complex set of emotional, symbolic, moral, intellectual and social considerations. It uses the normal means of communication- language, images, symbols, statutes, stories.

Literature as a part of our growth and development. It gives us an insight into the deep meaning of literature, the interrelation between humanism and literature.

Then now, I completed an MA after just one month, I'm able to define what is Literature.

Literature is the life of the journey. In journey thoughts, happiness, pain, agony, success, failure, frustration, problems, solution, mistakes or so many parts of life. There are also parts of each human beings. But throughout the journey, I'm always being a learner. There are parts of our experience.

Literature is the expression of life in words of truth and beauty. All literature is the expression of feeling, of passion, of emotion, caused by a sensation of the interestingness of life.

How Literature Shaped Me?

Our MA journey starts with Shakespeare's Hamlet to ends with Julian Barnes's Sense of an Ending. In between, there are several texts which are learning a lot.

Shakespeare's tragedies are the most prominent. In Hamlet 'readiness is all' it is taught me that every situation and circumstances readiness for everything whatever kinds of the problem but I'm mentally ready then it is solved.

John Donne's Metaphysical poetry is delightful and it is direct and indirect teaching that birth and death are already decided it is not our hands, so love, death, pain, etc are all enjoyed throughout life.

Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlow taught me, don't be overly proud. because of pride is overloaded then we are falling down and destroy ourself.

The Purpose through I'm another way to think about religion and rituals, deconstruct the myth which is firmly established in our society. Whatever we see in society, but in a way is not actual, the reality is something different from we thought that.

From Feminine perspectives in Mary Shelley, Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf wrote great work and struggle, female as a writer it is not easily accepted in society. Male-dominated society now has a reversal. It is a big struggle against patriarchy and feminism is now honoured. Also in paradise lost character of Eve is against the power and condition of God. So she is able to raise the question and argue.

Our existence, in Waiting for Godot and The Birthday Party great theatre plays, it is a question over our existence and also God's existence, we much believe in God and our remembrance, therefore, we suffer a lot. From Vladimir character, he is happy than Estragon. In a lifetime we also suffered a lot but not blindly believer like Estragon that he is not doing anything excepting Waiting for Godot. In throughout life, we do our best and good karmas then will be automatically God has found. But every time goodness is not doing anything, sometimes we do bad things for ourself it is reality. Another side we are good but society and people are corrupt, we see in The White Tiger, Balram Halwai's character. By born we are poor and suffered a lot then becoming rich it is human nature, and rich people are more corrupt in society, so as Balram has whatever done it is good for all common people.

•~ In BA time there are not allowing in college mobile phones, therefore, I don't use the mobile phone in my BA. After I'm in MA in department digital skills and humanities also developed in my MA journey. It is also part of our literature. We know about such a use of smartphone and also important of the language lab.  Similarly, it is taught that with time literature is reflect on changing time. So this is the real use of sources and technologies. Time has changed now, digital library, self-learning assessment, online teaching source or course all are available in the digital era. Any time we will learn in the digital platform. Literature is a life long journey, leaning is never ended up here, but is a continuous journey to the learning process.

Literature is an ocean. In the ocean, there are several creatures, fish, shark, cocktail, water horses, etc. Ocean has only saltwater. Literature is like an ocean. Literature is widely spreading and it is the form of a huge worldwide feature. The surface of the earth is in the ocean, in front of the ocean has sky. Sometimes literature is liking saltwater, they produce the harsh, dark side and unsatisfied. But all creatures of the ocean is the good side of literature. Big fishes eat small fishes it is the example of real life, like as in the present time people are enemies of the other person. Ex. Competition.

The Light House: Thinking Activity

To the Lighthouse: Virginia Woolf                    1. How can you explain that 'what' Virginia Woolf wanted to say (for example, the complexity of human relationship, the everyday battles that people are at in their relationship with near and dear ones, the struggle of a female artist against the values of middle/upper-class society etc) can only be said in the way she has said? (Key: The 'How' of the narrative technique is to be discussed along with features of Stream of Consciousness technique which helps Woolf to put in an effective manner what she experienced in abstractions.) =). There are other techniques also through which, one can explain all the thing what Virginia Woolf wanted to say, but the technique of Stream of Consciousness seems the best to explain as the whole novel is highly psychological where the complexity of relationships as well as the problems in day to day life with near relations due to such circumstances are being tried to explore by

Character of Friday in Robinson Crusoe for postcolonial aspect in the context of A Grain of Wheat

Thinking Activity: In the Context of A Grain of Wheat. How is the Native represented by colonizers? Do a character study of Friday in Robinson Crusoe. Throughout the history of mankind, there has always been an individual or a group of individuals who have deemed himself to be superior. This master-slave relationship has occurred skin colour. Friday is slave and Crusoe is his master. This relationship has also occurred in A Grain of Wheat. Britain is ruled upon Kenyan people. English people and the English language are strongly used, therefore, natives civilization does not understand the English language. Negros was a black people of Africa and people was a master (superior). Englishman has sold African people as a thing. During the 1930s, the first colonial laws were authorized formally establishing the institution of slavery. In the context of A Grain of Wheat, both the colonizer and the colonized feel morally justified in their pursuits, colonialism is ultimately an immoral an

BA: TY: Play: The Hairy Ape

Play: The Hairy Ape by Eugene O'Neill Yank as a Tragic hero or 'Hairy Ape' as a modern tragedy Introduction:- Most of O'Neill's plays are tragedies 'Hairy Ape' is also a great tragedy. But it is not a conventional tragedy in the Aristotlelian tradition but a modern tragedy. It's subject matter and theme is the same, but it's form is different. It is a great tragedy with a great difference. Yank as a tragic hero: not a man of high rank- Aristotle laid down that the hero of tragedy must be exceptional individual, man of high rank, a king or a prince so that his fall from his greatness would arouse the tragic emotions of pity and fear. All Shakespeare's heroes fulfil this requirement. But Yank, the hero of 'Hairy Ape' is not a man of high rank. He is not a king or a prince or some extra ordinary human being. He is a common stoker whose business is to shove fuel into the furnace of the ships engine. For long hours, he has to work
